Volunteering – November 2024
At Mbaise Family Women Association Southern California (MFWA SOCAL), our mission is rooted in community upliftment and making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. Recently, we had the privilege of volunteering at Project Angel Food, a renowned nonprofit based in downtown Los Angeles, to volunteer our time and energy for a cause that resonates deeply with our values.
Project Angel Food serves as a lifeline for individuals battling critical illnesses by providing nutritious, home-delivered meals tailored to their unique dietary needs. Their work not only ensures that these individuals receive vital sustenance but also reminds them that they are not alone in their journey.
Our volunteer team enthusiastically stepped into action, helping to package meals in Project Angel Food’s bustling kitchen. It was a day filled with teamwork, compassion, and a shared commitment to spreading hope. Whether chopping vegetables, organizing supplies, or assembling meal kits, every task was a reminder of the power of collective effort.
For us, this partnership goes beyond volunteering. It reflects our dedication to building bridges within our communities and empowering individuals through acts of kindness. We believe in the strength of service and the profound impact it has not only on those we serve but also on us as volunteers.
The experience with Project Angel Food reaffirmed our belief in the importance of organizations coming together to address community challenges. As MFWA continues to grow, we remain committed to collaborating with like-minded organizations to amplify our impact.
We encourage everyone to get involved, whether by volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word about the incredible work organizations like Project Angel Food are doing. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positive change in our communities.
Stay connected with us for updates on our future initiatives and activities as we continue to inspire and be inspired.

Women’s Day Catalina Island – October 2024
In October, the Mbaise Family Women gathered for a much-deserved day of celebration, relaxation, and bonding during our annual Women’s Day outing. This special tradition is our way of honoring the hard work, dedication, and achievements we’ve accomplished throughout the year. This year, our destination was the breathtaking Catalina Island—a perfect escape for a day of fun and adventure.
The journey began at Long Beach Harbor, where we boarded the iconic Catalina Express. The ferry ride set the tone for the day with stunning ocean views, dolphins’ sightings, a refreshing sea breeze, and a sense of anticipation as we approached the picturesque island.
Once on Catalina, we enjoyed a delightful lunch that brought us together to share laughter, stories, and, of course, delicious food. The camaraderie was palpable, with every woman soaking in the joy of being surrounded by uplifting company.
After lunch, we embarked on the Discover Avalon Tour, an exhilarating bus ride through the charming island town of Avalon. The tour gave us a deeper appreciation for Catalina’s rich history and breathtaking scenery, from its serene beaches to its majestic hillside views. The thrill of the winding roads and the incredible sights made this part of the trip truly unforgettable.
By the end of the day, we were happily exhausted but deeply rejuvenated. The outing was not just a celebration of our efforts but also a reaffirmation of the power of sisterhood and unity. It reminded us why we work so hard throughout the year—to uplift each other and our community while creating memories that last a lifetime.
As we left Catalina Island and made our way back to the mainland, we carried with us not just the beauty of the day but also a renewed sense of purpose and togetherness.
Here’s to more celebrations, stronger connections, and even greater achievements ahead!

Labor Day Picnic 2024
The Mbaise Family Labor Day Picnic is more than just an event—it’s a tradition, a celebration of community, and a gathering of love and laughter for all generations. This year, in beautiful Diamond Bar, California, the picnic brought together the Mbaise Family Association and the Mbaise Family Women Association for an unforgettable day filled with joy, delicious food, and cherished memories.
This event is one of our biggest hits, drawing families, friends, and loved ones from near and far. The beauty of the picnic lies in its inclusivity—it truly is for everyone. From toddlers to grandparents, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The little ones delighted in engaging games and prize-filled activities, their laughter ringing through the air as they competed and played. The older kids took to the courts and fields for spirited games of basketball and soccer, showcasing their skills and team spirit.
The women brought their unmatched energy, filling the day with lively music and impromptu dance sessions that lifted everyone’s spirits. Meanwhile, the men upheld the cherished tradition of breaking kola nuts, a symbol of hospitality and unity, while delving into vibrant discussions about Nigeria and other hot topics.
And of course, no Mbaise Family picnic would be complete without the food—arguably the highlight of the day! We grilled sumptuous steaks, chicken, yam, plantains, and corn, their aromas filling the park and making mouths water. The spread included favorites like Jollof rice, ugba, fresh fruits, cupcakes, and more—a true feast that satisfied every palate.
As the sun set, the park buzzed with the sounds of laughter, music, and heartfelt conversations. It was a day that reminded us of the strength and warmth of our community—a celebration of our roots, our culture, and the bonds that unite us.
The Labor Day Picnic is more than just an event; it’s a testament to the power of family, tradition, and togetherness. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
